Welcome back Maine South begins 25th year When the doors opened this morning, Maine South began its twenty-fifth year of operation. Since 1964, Maine South has always been a source of pride for its staff, students and community. So in this, the year of Maine South's silver anniversary, the administration and faculty have planned many exciting events and activities centering around 25 years of service and pride. Over the summer, a select committee made up of both past and present school administration, faculty, and staff met to discuss plans for this year's celebration. The bet example of their work is the newly dedicated "Spirit of South" statue on display in the art court. Major funding for the expansive 3 1/2 foot bronze sculpture of a hawk in flight was provided by the Dr. Clyde K. Watson Memorial fund along with help from Student Council and community groups. Currently in the works are plans for an anniversary theme to the Homecoming dance, featured alumni at Southfest '89 and the performance of alumni in both the Marlin show and the 25th anniversary celebration of the V-Show. The committee will continue to meet throughout the school year to coordinate efforts for this exciting anniversary year.
